Old folders left behind

When OneDrive (or another tool) takes over your Desktop, Documents, or Pictures folder, Windows starts using a new folder. The old one can stay on the computer with files in it that never moved. Those files have no backup, and most people never notice.

You'll see this whenSavedSafe shows an "Old Desktop folder", "Old Documents folder", or "Old Pictures folder" that was "Left behind".

Steps

  1. Open File Explorer and go to the old folder SavedSafe shows, for example C:\Users\YourName\Pictures.
  2. Open the file list SavedSafe saved next to your report (SavedSafe-Report.csv) to see exactly which files have no copy.
  3. Move those files into your current folder of the same name. SavedSafe shows its location in the report.
  4. Leave files that already have a copy where they are. SavedSafe only warns about files with no copy.
  5. Run SavedSafe again to make sure the problem is fixed.

Good to know

  • Not sure which folder is the current one? In File Explorer, click Pictures in the left panel. The address bar shows the folder Windows uses now.
Done? Run SavedSafe again. When everything is protected, the report turns green.
